Audiogram (click for worldwide facilities list): An audiogram is a standard way of representing a person's hearing loss. The audiogram is a graph, which indicates specific frequencies (pure tones) and intensity levels (in decibels) and identifies what a person can hear individually in each ear. . Speech audiometry is another component of the comprehensive audiological evaluation, and this involves the patient repeating spondaic (two-syllable) words at increasingly softer volume levels in order to establish how softly they can hear speech in both ears. Finally, speech discrimination is established for each ear to evaluate how clearly the individual can understand words delivered to each ear. Therefore, the audiogram identifies both how softly and how clearly the patient hears. Hearing impairment occurs to some extent with increasing age, but may be exacerbated by prolonged exposure to fairly high noise levels, work related exposure to high noise, or brief exposure to very high sound levels such as a gunshot or music. Hearing impairment may also be the result of certain diseases such as otosclerosis or Meniere's disease, which can be diagnosed from the shape of the audiogram. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audiogram, http://www.ccent.com/audiology-hearing-aids-fresno-visalia-california.htm#test
