Intragastric Balloon is categorized on OnlineMedicalTourism.com as within the class of procedures known as Weight Loss. This procedure is sometimes also referred to as IGB..
Intragastric Balloon (click for worldwide facilities list): The silicon intragastric balloon (IGB) has been developed as a temporary aid to achieve weight loss in obese people with 40% or more their optimal weight, who, despite of being cared for by a multidisciplinary team, have had unsatisfactory results in their treatment for obesity, and in super obese patients who often have a high risk for surgery.
The placement and removal of the IGB is an interventionist endoscopic procedure. The intragastric balloon is designed to float freely inside the stomach. Its size may be changed during the placement. The IGB technique reduces the volume of the stomach and leads to a premature feeling of satiety.
The stomach balloon is inserted through your mouth, down your gullet and into your stomach. When preformed by experienced doctors, it requires little or (usually) no sedation at all, and takes about ten minutes to place. The stomach balloon is designed to induce weight loss by partially filling your stomach so that you get less hungry, feel fuller quicker, and importantly alter your personal relationship with food. The balloon remains in your stomach for 6 months, during which time most patients drop at least 50% of their excess body weight. After 6 months, removal of the balloon is as simple as its placement.
The IGB has been implemented extensively in Europe. The appeal of the IGB is its ease of placement and generally low complication rate, but must be tempered by its short-term use of 6 months.
