University Medical Center is the only public, non-profit hospital in Clark County. University Medical Center is the state-designated Level I Trauma Center for Southern Nevada, as well as the only advanced facility to offer a specialized team of medical professionals prepared to respond to the needs of the severely injured 24 hours a day. UMC also houses the state's only burn care facility -- the Lions Burn Care Center, and operates a comprehensive free-standing unit devoted solely to physical medicine and rehabilitation
University Medical Centeris affiliated with the University of Nevada School of Medicine and serves as the state's major clinical campus. Through its affiliation with the School of Medicine, residency programs in emergency medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, family practice, general surgery and pediatrics are offered at University Medical Center.
University Medical Center operates several Quick Care and Primary Care clinics around Clark County. UMC is home to several specialty service lines including orthopedics, pediatrics, neonatology, cardiology, neurology, and oncology, among others.
Cancer Center:
UMC maintains a certified in-patient cancer treatment program. The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has certified the program since 1983.
Heart Center:
University Medical Center recently received the American Heart Association?s Get With The Guidelines?Coronary Artery Disease (GWTG-CAD) Annual Performance Achievement Award.
The award recognizes UMC?s commitment and success for 12 consecutive months in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care that effectively improves treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease.
HIV Wellness Center:
We care for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families regardless of age or ability to pay. the Wellness Center can address most of your primary healthcare needs.
Neurological Disorders:
UMC has been on the leading edge of developing a team of physicians and other specialists to treat Neurological, Spine and Pain problems. Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Physiatrists, and Anesthesiologists work together to evaluate neurological, spine, and pain problems.
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at UMC/University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM) involves all aspects of care for seizure disorders.
Transplant Surgery:
Nevada's first kidney transplant took place at UMC on Christmas Day 1989. Since then many patients have received the gift of life through the transplant program, which also includes pancreas transplants that offer major hope to diabetics.
A cooperative program between UMC and the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM), the program's efforts are aimed at expanding its scope of transplantation to other organs.
Rehabilitation:
UMC?s Rancho Rehabilitation Center offers 34 general rehabilitation beds to provide continuity of care to patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, post craniotomy and other insults to the brain which cause the patient thought process deficits; amputation, multiple trauma, fractured hip, arthritis and spinal cord injuries (traumatic or disease process).
Services are also provided for patients with neurological degenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Gullian Barre Syndrome, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig?s disease) and neuropathies.
