The activity of Istituto Clinico Mater Domini is structured into 7 clinicaldepartments that monitor the four strategic areas of the Istituto: excellence, quality of services delivered, medical-surgical care, and innovation. This ensures the efficient delivery of health care services in keeping with users? needs.

Cardiology Unit:

Hospital ward activities are supported by two Laboratories for Interventional Cardiolog.

* The Electrophysiology and Electrostimulation Laboratory, which has two separate operating rooms, where intracavitary electrophysiology studies, transcatheter ablations, pacemaker implants, automatic defibrillator implants and transesophageal pacing are performed

* The Haemodynamics Laboratory, which also has two operating rooms, where cardiac catheterization, coronary angiography, and coronary angioplasty and stenting are performed.

Vascular Surgery Unit:

The Vascular Surgery Unit treats all the various vascular diseases affecting the arteries (arteriopathies of an atherosclerotic, inflammatory, functional or diabetic nature and aneurisms), veins (varices, superficial phlebitis, deep vein thrombosis, leg ulcers) and the lymphatic system (lymphoedemas, lymphangitis).

International Patients

The Mater Domini Clinical Institute can offer patients coming from countries both in and outside Europe the best possible health care, with the support of the very latest technologies and the skills and care of doctors and nurses capable of addressing them in English, where necessary. Interpreters are available for any patients who request these services.

The Imaging Diagnostics Department carries out diagnostic investigations using traditional radiology, urological radiology, odontostomatological radiology (orthopantomography, dental CAT scan with Dental-Scan), mammography (mammary echography, needle biopsies using both ultrasound guidance, core-biopsy, echography (ultrasound investigations of the abdomen, soft tissues, colour Doppler echography, contrast echography), MOC, surgical echography (biopsies, drainage, radiofrequency ablation therapy for hepatic tumours), multislice spiral CT scan (investigations relating to all the body segments including angio-CT scan for the study of blood vessels), diagnostic and interventional angiography (angioplasty, positioning of vascular stents, chemoembolizations), open Magnetic Resonance Imaging (neuroradiological, articular investigations).

The department collaborates with the School of Specialization in Imaging Diagnostics of the University of Insubria (Varese), directed by Professor C. Fugazzola.

Travel Information:

The Mater Domini Clinical Institute is situated in Castellanza, in the province of Varese, very close to Malpensa International Airport, Milan and the Swiss border. In addition, Castellanza has its own rail link with all the main centres of Northern Italy and with the airport itself. The Institute is therefore able to receive patients who come from over the border and who can easily reach the facilities by car, air or train. The Institute is easily reached from any foreign country.
