The Queen Elizabeth Hospital was opened in 1964 as an acute care facility, which sought to address the medical, surgical, clinical and treatment needs of the Caribbean and to serve as a teaching hospital for those seeking a career in the medical profession.

At the time of opening, the Q.E.H was a four hundred and sixty-four (464) bed facility offering services in the areas of Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dental Care, Ulcers and Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) specializations.

Over the last forty-two years, the hospital has expanded its current bed capacity to six hundred rooms with one Ward closed for renovations. The number of services has grown to include Paediatrics ICU, Delivery Suite, Gynecology, Neurology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Invasive Cardiac Care, Radiotherapy, Hematology and Urology.
