UPMC Beacon Hospital

UPMC Beacon Hospital

Dublin, Ireland   |   Accreditation: JCI

Dublin 18

01 293 6600

Located in south Dublin, UPMC Beacon Hospital provides world-class acute care services, including heart surgery, neurosurgery, comprehensive cancer care, and emergency medicine services.

The hospital, opened in October 2006, has 183 acute care beds, eight operating theatres, two endoscopy suites and 14 dedicated critical care beds.

The hospital combines the best in Irish and US healthcare. As the showcase site for General Electric in Europe, it has the most up to date Radiology systems, including MRI, CT scanner with cardiac capabilities, CT Sim, and PET/CT. It also features Digital Radiology suites with advanced Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound, as well as Angiography suites and lab with advanced single- plane and bi-plane systems and Flouroscopy.

Treatment facilities in Beacon include 8 operating theatres with dedicated rooms for Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiac, General, Orthopaedic and Ophthalmic Surgery.

Beacon has 14 Critical Care Beds individually capable of isolating any patient. This may seem a small point but is in fact very important with each patient has their own room, with glass front, so nurses see everything, but they are allowed a certain degree of privacy with their loved ones at this crucial time. It also helps minimize infection- a very pertinent issue in healthcare today.

For the International Patient:

UPMC Beacon Hospital has a dedicated international patient department with staff who are sensitive to the personal and culterual nedds of international patients.

Our International Patient package includes:

– Surgery and ICU stay
– Recovery on a high-tech ward
– Discharge summary and electronic records passed to the referring doctor including intra-operative images
– Complete information about patient stay
– Translation services
– Visa processing facilitation services
– Caretaker facilitation

As you might expect, Beacon offers highly advanced IT systems which offer electronic medical record capabilities and remote access to clinical information for doctors – GPs and consultants.

The nursing philosophy in Beacon is a collaborative approach where compassion and care are delivered through touch, a kind act, through competent clinical interventions or through listening and seeking to understand the others experience. The nursing philosophy is relationship-based with therapeutic presence- where patients are treated primarily as individuals with individual needs.
