Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Without oxygen no healthy organism can function properly and when there is an injury or infection in the body, it calls for extra oxygen supply during the healing process. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy aims to serve this increased oxygen need of the body to heal tissue damage and infections. Hyperbaric therapy takes place in a special room, where the air pressure is three times higher than environmental pressure. The space is filled with pure oxygen, which is much easier to absorb for the lungs and blood to circulate it all over the body enhancing the release of the so called growth factors and stem cells.

What Conditions Are Treated With Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

  • Decompression sickness after scuba diving
  • Anemia
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Wounds of diabetic patients
  • Gangrene
  • Tissue and bone damages caused by infection and radiation
  • Burns
  • Arterial gas embolism

The Hyperbariatic Therapy Procedure

It is a safe procedure during which you will be placed in an individual room or a room that has space for several patients. In the individual room (monoplace), in lying position you will be slid into a plastic tube that is filled with 100% pure oxygen. When you are with other patients (multiplace), you will be administered the oxygen through a mask or a hood.

Patients do not feel any pain or discomfort, only some pressure similar to traveling on an airplane. After the approximately two-hour long session you are likely to feel a bit dizzy, but it fades away fast.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is most efficient when repeated several times; in serious cases even 30 repetitions are necessary.

Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

  • Increased oxygen in the plasma
  • Decreased edemas
  • Restored defense functions
  • Reduce the number of free radicals in the body
  • Fastens stroke recovery

Although there is no sufficient scientific evidence, but hyperbaric therapy is alleged to -

  • Help cancer recovery
  • Cure fatigue, senility, multiple sclerosis, allergy, autism, ulcers.
